MOCU (pronounced Mo • coo) is derived from the Aztec Nahuatl word, Mocuepa, meaning “to change” or “to transform”.
Our founder and CEO, Toby Reed, was moved to change his unhealthy lifestyle when he tragically lost his mother, father, and brother over the course of 3 years. The most surprising of those losses was his brother, Joe, who passed away at the age of 31 due to his obesity. Joe was extremely addicted to soda and fast food.
Searching for answers to improve his own health, Toby found ingredients that helped him change his lifestyle. Chia, an ancient Aztec food that fueled their warriors, was the first ingredient that helped aid in Toby's transformation. Chia seeds helped him to lose 100 pounds due to their naturally filling and nutritious benefits. This led to the creation of our drink mixes that were made to be healthy, tasty, affordable, easy options versus soda and other snacks. And with that, MOCU was created. The 3 dark holes in the MOCU logo honor the 3 family members who passed away and inspired the change.
Over time, Toby and his wife, Leah, found that eating functional foods helped them to heal ailments and stay healthier. They sought out clean ingredients for themselves and wanted to make those ingredients available to others. They also saw the continued need to make eating healthy easier, especially with their children.
MOCU’s products are designed to deliver powerful nutrition and make healthy eating not only easy, but delicious and fun. Our ingredients are high quality and clean. We only sell what we feel good about using everyday in our household. We supply bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores, other brands and individuals with our ingredients from sources that we trust, including small farms in our home state of Colorado where our company is based.
Our hope is that our ingredients and mixes can be used to build healthier lifestyles, and that our story inspires you to try something healthy and new!
